Moral Clarity: Time to stand up

Moral Clarity is the newsletter I wish I did not have to write. Global circumstances have forced it upon me. We are in a moral crisis.

Watching coverage of Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel – a brigade-sized pogrom that killed more than 1200 people in an orgy of violence – I was shocked. I coped by telling myself the world has always been falling apart and that there had always been, and would always be, madmen and ideologues.

Then something even more shocking happened. Before Israel had responded, before the dead were counted or the abducted accounted for, there were crowds in the streets of Western capitals celebrating. This was a celebration of terror and a rallying cry for more. Police stood and watched. Calling for slaughter had become not only acceptable, but fashionable. Anti-Semitic protests have swept America’s university campuses unchecked. Even some media are on board.

The moral failure has been stupefying.
